Fabogo
Built the UAE's largest salon and wellness aggregator from scratch in 30 days—growing to half a million monthly users across three countries.
The Challenge
The wellness industry in the UAE had zero digital infrastructure—salons operated on walk-ins and WhatsApp bookings with no centralized discovery or booking system.
As a Pakistani co-founder in an Indian startup based in Dubai, I had to navigate cultural expectations while building trust with both investors and local salon owners.
We had a prototype and investor interest but zero product, zero team, and a 30-day deadline to launch a working platform.
My Role
Co-founder and CTO—end-to-end product development from prototype to scale. Responsible for architecture, team building, technical direction, and bridging the gap between investors, the Indian founding team, and UAE salon owners.
What I Did
- Built the initial prototype in days while still processing being let go from my previous role—turning a raw idea into something investors could believe in.
- Led the full-stack development of the website in 30 days and mobile apps in another 30, coordinating with designers and early stakeholders.
- Scaled the platform from zero to 20,000+ listings across UAE, India, and Cebu, handling the technical complexity of multiple geographies.
- Architected the system to handle 30,000+ logged calls monthly and support half a million monthly active users.
- Built and led the engineering team from the ground up, establishing processes that would support aggressive growth.
- Managed the technical relationship with investors, translating engineering progress into business confidence.
The Result
- Launched the website in 30 days and mobile apps in 60 days—startup speed that proved the team could execute.
- Scaled to 20,000+ business listings and 500,000+ monthly users across UAE, India, and Cebu.
- Processed 30,000+ calls monthly through the platform at peak.
- Raised nearly $3M in funding across multiple rounds.
- Became the largest player in the UAE wellness aggregation space.
What started as a prototype built in the aftermath of losing my job became the UAE's dominant wellness platform. The 30-day launch wasn't just about speed—it proved to investors that a Pakistani co-founder and an Indian team could execute in Dubai's competitive market. Within three years, we'd expanded across two continents, handled half a million monthly users, and built the infrastructure that made booking a salon as easy as ordering food.
The Technology
My Takeaway
“Speed is a competitive advantage, but sustainable scale requires architecture that grows with the business. Launching in 30 days got us in the door—but building the systems to handle half a million users, multiple geographies, and growing listing volumes is what kept us there.”
